How Much Does It Cost to Groom Two Dogs at Once?

Blog |

Quick answer: Two dogs means two grooming services, so the cost is the sum of each dog’s price. At our North Texas Kontota location, two small dogs needing full grooms start at $306.24 together, and one small plus one large dog starts at $368.04. What you save by booking them in the same visit is the $119.99 visit minimum applied once instead of twice, one travel fee instead of two, and one grooming day instead of two. See the full pricing page for every figure.

It is a reasonable assumption. If the van is already in your driveway, surely the second dog costs less?

Partly true, and worth understanding properly. The travel and the visit minimum are shared. The grooming work is not. Two dogs still means two baths, two coats to dry and potentially two haircuts.

Price Both My Dogs

Price per dog by weight

Start by finding each dog separately in the table, then add them together.

Dog’s weight Bath only, short coat Bath only, long coat Full groom with haircut
0 to 15 lbs $78.97 $91.33 $153.12
16 to 25 lbs $91.33 $116.04 $165.48
25 to 40 lbs $103.69 $140.76 $177.84
41 to 60 lbs $128.40 $165.48 $190.20
61 to 70 lbs $140.76 $177.84 $202.56
71 to 80 lbs $153.12 $190.20 $214.92
81 to 90 lbs $165.48 $202.56 $227.28

Haircut prices include the bath. These are Essentials prices at our North Texas franchise, before tax (8.25%) and the 3% fuel surcharge.

Four worked examples for two-dog households

Your two dogs Services Dog 1 Dog 2 Combined
Two small dogs, both 20 lbs Full groom each $165.48 $165.48 $330.96
Two miniature dogs, both 12 lbs Full groom each $153.12 $153.12 $306.24
One 20 lb dog, one 65 lb dog Full groom each $165.48 $202.56 $368.04
One 35 lb doodle, one 70 lb Labrador Haircut and short-coat bath $177.84 $140.76 $318.60

That last row is the important one. The Labrador does not need a haircut. Booking a bath for the short-coated dog instead of a full groom saves $61.80 on that appointment alone, and gives the dog the service it actually needs.

What you actually save by booking both in one visit

Cost Two separate visits One visit, both dogs
Visit minimum of $119.99 Applies to each visit Applies once
Travel fee, if your address qualifies $50 or $75 twice Once
Grooming service per dog Full price each Full price each
Grooming days you plan around Two One

So the honest summary is this. The second dog does not get a cheaper groom, because the groomer still washes, dries, brushes and finishes that dog from scratch. What booking together removes is the duplicated visit cost and a second afternoon out of your week.

Ask when you book: whether any multiple-dog pricing is available for your appointment, and whether your address falls inside the no-travel-fee area. Both change the combined total.

Why the second dog is not half price

Each dog needs the complete service: bath, rinse, full dry, brush out and whatever trimming their coat requires. None of that gets faster because another dog was groomed first.

Size still drives the price, too. A 65 lb dog has more coat to wash, more surface to dry and more body to trim than a 20 lb dog, whether they are groomed alone or alongside a housemate. That is why the total is not calculated by counting dogs.

When your two dogs need different services

This is the most common two-dog situation, and the one where most money is wasted.

A typical household has a doodle that needs regular haircuts and a Labrador that needs bathing and deshedding. There is no reason to book both for the same service.

  • Haircut appointment: Poodles, Shih Tzus, Maltese, doodle mixes, anything with a continuously growing coat
  • Short-coat bath: Labradors, Beagles, Boxers, French Bulldogs
  • Long-hair bath with deshedding and outline trim: Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Huskies and other double coats. This runs $109.85 for a small dog up to $289.08 at the top weight band, and is usually a better choice than clipping a double coat short.

Choose per dog, not per household. It is the simplest way to keep a two-dog bill sensible.

Does grooming two dogs take twice as long?

Longer, but not always double. Each dog needs their own bath, dry, brush and finish, so the appointment length depends on the combination.

Your two dogs Rough appointment length
Two small dogs, maintained coats, baths Around 1.5 to 2 hours
Two small dogs, full haircuts Around 2 to 3 hours
Two large doodles, full haircuts Around 3.5 to 4.5 hours

Coat condition is the biggest variable. Dogs brushed regularly and kept on a consistent schedule need far less preparation than dogs with significant tangles. When you book, give us both dogs’ weights, breeds or mixes, coat types and the services you want so we can block out enough time rather than treating the two appointments as identical.

What can add to a two-dog total?

Service Price Applies per dog
Dematting $55 up to 40 lbs, $65 for 41 to 80 lbs, $75 for 81 to 110 lbs Yes, only for the dog whose coat needs it
Extra deshedding $19.99 for 15 minutes, $39.98 for 30 minutes Yes
Gland expression $24.99 Yes
Paw-dicure $49.99 Yes
Spa add-on packages $19.99 each Yes
Special handling $25 Only if a dog needs substantially more assistance
Travel fee $50 at 40+ minutes, $75 at 50+ minutes No, charged once per visit

None of these are automatic. If one dog has a maintained coat and the other has matted, the fee applies only to the second dog.

Why mobile grooming suits two-dog households

One dog at a salon is manageable. Two is a different exercise. Both into the car, across town, two appointments to coordinate, and a return trip that often does not line up neatly because the dogs finish at different times.

With mobile grooming we come to you, both dogs get their own appointment in the van, and you stay home. Between work, school runs and Dallas-Fort Worth traffic, that is frequently worth more to a two-dog household than any discount.

We serve Frisco, McKinney, Prosper, Denton, Aubrey, Plano and surrounding North Texas communities.

What if one of your dogs is nervous?

Dogs that live together often respond to grooming completely differently. One settles immediately, the other worries about the dryer.

Mobile grooming helps here because each dog is groomed individually in the van rather than in a room with unfamiliar animals. It does not remove anxiety about grooming itself.

Tell us when you book if one dog finds part of the process difficult. Special handling is a $25 service used when a dog genuinely needs substantially more assistance, not something added because a dog is shy.

Should both dogs be on the same schedule?

Only if their coats agree. Two small dogs with continuously growing coats both do well every 4 to 6 weeks, so one grooming day covers both.

A curly doodle and a short-haired Labrador are different. The doodle needs a haircut every 4 to 6 weeks, while the Labrador needs a bath and deshed every 6 to 10. Booking an unnecessary haircut just to keep one calendar is paying for nothing.

A practical compromise many two-dog households use: both dogs on the doodle’s schedule, with the Labrador on a bath every second visit.

How to keep two-dog grooming costs down

  1. Book the right service for each dog. The single biggest saving available, worth $60 or more per visit.
  2. Brush both coats between appointments. Preventing one dematting fee saves $55 to $75.
  3. Book both dogs in the same visit so the visit minimum and any travel fee apply once.
  4. Stay consistent. Stretched schedules on curly coats create extra work that costs more than the appointment you skipped.
  5. Budget it as a regular household cost. Once you know both dogs’ prices and intervals, the year stops being a surprise.

Two-dog grooming FAQs

How much does it cost to groom two dogs at once?

Add each dog’s price together. At our North Texas Kontota location, two miniature dogs needing full grooms start at $306.24, two 20 lb dogs at $330.96, and a 20 lb plus 65 lb pair at $368.04.

Is it cheaper to groom two dogs in the same visit?

Cheaper than two separate visits, yes. The $119.99 visit minimum and any travel fee apply once instead of twice, and you only plan around one grooming day. The grooming service itself is still priced per dog.

Is the second dog half price?

No. Each dog gets a complete bath, dry, brush out and trim, so the work does not halve. Size and coat set each dog’s price independently.

Can my two dogs have different services?

Yes, and they usually should. A doodle needing a haircut and a Labrador needing a bath are two different appointments at two different prices.

How long does a two-dog mobile appointment take?

Roughly 1.5 to 2 hours for two small baths, 2 to 3 hours for two small haircuts, and 3.5 to 4.5 hours for two large doodles in full coat.

Is there a travel fee for each dog?

No. Travel is charged per visit, not per dog. It is $50 when your address is 40 minutes or more from the van’s route and $75 beyond 50 minutes.
