How Much Does a Full-Service Dog Groom Cost?

Blog |

Quick answer: At our North Texas Kontota location, a full-service groom with a haircut costs $153.12 for dogs up to 15 lbs and rises by weight to $289.08 for dogs in the 131 to 140 lb range. The bath is included in that price. Every visit has a $119.99 minimum. Extras such as dematting ($55 to $75) or added deshedding ($19.99 to $39.98) apply only when your dog’s coat needs them. See the full pricing page or get an exact figure with our instant price estimator.

“Full-service groom” shows up on almost every grooming website, and almost no two companies mean the same thing by it. Some packages are a bath and coat maintenance. Others include a full haircut. Extras like dematting or deshedding may be bundled or billed separately.

That is why two appointments both advertised as full service can be $80 apart. Below is exactly what ours includes and what it costs.

Full-service dog groom prices by weight

Our Essentials haircut price is set by your dog’s weight, and the bath is always included. You are not charged twice to get your dog washed and trimmed.

Dog’s weight Full groom with haircut (bath included)
0 to 15 lbs $153.12
16 to 25 lbs $165.48
25 to 40 lbs $177.84
41 to 60 lbs $190.20
61 to 70 lbs $202.56
71 to 80 lbs $214.92
81 to 90 lbs $227.28
91 to 100 lbs $239.64
101 to 110 lbs $252.00
111 to 120 lbs $264.36
121 to 130 lbs $276.72
131 to 140 lbs $289.08

A 20 lb Shih Tzu with a maintained coat falls in the $165.48 band. A 65 lb Goldendoodle falls in the $202.56 band. Both get a bath with the haircut. The larger dog simply takes longer to wash, dry and trim.

These are Essentials prices at our North Texas franchise, before tax (8.25%) and the fuel surcharge (3%). Kontota locations are independently operated, so prices can differ elsewhere.

What is included in a full-service dog groom?

Our Essentials haircut covers the complete appointment:

  • Warm bath with shampoo and conditioner matched to the coat
  • Thorough rinse and full blow dry
  • Brush out and coat preparation
  • Haircut, breed trim and finishing work
  • Face wash and eye rinse
  • Light finishing fragrance

Preparation is not padding. A groomer needs a clean, fully dried coat to cut an even line. Clipping through damp or tangled hair gives a patchy finish and an uncomfortable appointment.

Available separately when your dog needs them: dematting, extra deshedding, gland expression and a paw-dicure.

Worth asking any groomer: does the quoted price include the bath, and which services are billed on top? Those two questions explain most of the price gap between quotes.

Why does a full groom cost more for a bigger dog?

Grooming a 15 lb dog and a 90 lb dog are not the same job. The larger dog has more coat to shampoo and rinse, more surface area to dry, and more body to brush and clip. Working around the legs, feet and underside takes noticeably longer.

Drying is the step most pet parents underestimate. A fine-coated small dog dries quickly. A large dog with a thick or curly coat can take most of the appointment to dry properly, and the haircut cannot start until it is dry.

Weight gives everyone a consistent starting point. Coat and services decide the rest.

Full groom or bath only? Here is the price difference

Not every dog needs a haircut. Choosing the right service is the simplest way to avoid paying for work your dog does not need.

Dog’s weight Bath only, short coat Bath only, long coat Full groom with haircut
0 to 15 lbs $78.97 $91.33 $153.12
16 to 25 lbs $91.33 $116.04 $165.48
25 to 40 lbs $103.69 $140.76 $177.84
41 to 60 lbs $128.40 $165.48 $190.20
61 to 70 lbs $140.76 $177.84 $202.56
71 to 80 lbs $153.12 $190.20 $214.92

A bath appointment covers washing, rinsing, drying and coat care. A haircut appointment adds the clipping, shaping and finishing on top of all of that.

Which service fits your dog:

  • Haircut: Poodles, Shih Tzus, Maltese, doodle mixes and any continuously growing coat
  • Bath and coat maintenance: Labradors, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and other short or double coats

For double-coated breeds we also offer a long-hair bath with deshedding and an outline trim, which is usually the better choice than clipping the coat short. That service runs $109.85 for a small dog up to $289.08 at the top weight band.

What can make a full groom cost more?

Matting

A mat forms when loose hair tangles with the surrounding coat and tightens. In long or curly coats it compresses close to the skin, where brushing it out is no longer comfortable. Our dematting charge is $55 for dogs up to 40 lbs, $65 for 41 to 80 lbs, and $75 for 81 to 110 lbs.

A few small tangles do not trigger this. It applies when the coat genuinely needs the extra work, and we tell you before we start.

Heavy shedding

Huskies, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and Labradors can release a remarkable amount of undercoat. Extra deshedding is $19.99 for 15 minutes or $39.98 for 30 minutes, and only when the loose coat calls for it.

Add-on services

Service Price
Spa add-on packages (Comfort Oats, Aromatherapy Paradise, Stink-B-Gone, Little Pups, Blueberry Bliss Whitening) $19.99 each
Gland expression $24.99
Paw-dicure $49.99
Mini-groom $19.99

Not every dog needs every option. The appointment should be built around what your dog actually needs.

Travel and standard charges

A travel fee of $50 applies when your address sits 40 minutes or more from the van’s route, and $75 beyond 50 minutes. Tax of 8.25% and a 3% fuel surcharge are applied at checkout. Seniors and veterans get $10 off every groom.

Why does mobile full-service grooming cost more than a salon?

A salon works from one building and can groom several dogs across the day, spreading its costs. A mobile van carries its own water, power, bathing and drying equipment to every address, and grooms one dog per appointment.

What you get back is your afternoon. No drive across town, no drop-off, no waiting call, no second trip for pickup. For households in Frisco, McKinney, Prosper and Denton, removing those trips is often the deciding factor.

To be clear, mobile grooming does not automatically produce a better haircut than a good salon groomer. A good groom comes down to the groomer’s skill, your dog’s coat and the services performed. What mobile changes is the convenience and the appointment environment.

How often should you book a full groom?

Coat type Typical schedule Examples
Curly or continuously growing Every 4 to 6 weeks Poodles, doodles, Maltese, Shih Tzus
Long single coat Every 6 to 8 weeks Cocker Spaniels, Cavaliers
Short or double coat Bath and deshed every 6 to 10 weeks Labradors, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers

In North Texas, swimming, pollen and seasonal shedding all shorten those intervals. A doodle that spends the summer in the pool needs more frequent coat maintenance than the same dog in a quieter season.

How to keep full-groom costs predictable

  1. Brush through the coat, not just over it. A slicker brush separates the hair, a metal comb tells you whether you actually reached the skin.
  2. Keep a consistent schedule. A maintained coat lets the groomer do the planned work instead of fixing preventable problems.
  3. Book the right service. A short-haired dog does not need a haircut appointment.
  4. Know what is included before you book. Check the full pricing page so there are no surprises at the door.

Full-service dog groom cost FAQs

How much does a full-service dog groom cost?

At our North Texas Kontota location, $153.12 for dogs up to 15 lbs rising to $289.08 for dogs in the 131 to 140 lb band. The bath is included. Every visit has a $119.99 minimum.

Is the bath included in a full groom?

Yes. Our Essentials haircut price includes the bath, rinse, dry and brush out. You are not billed separately for the wash.

Does a full groom include nail trimming and gland expression?

Gland expression is a separate service at $24.99, and a paw-dicure is $49.99. Packages differ between groomers, so always ask what a quoted price covers.

Why is my quote higher than the price in the table?

Usually one of four reasons: your dog’s coat needed dematting, extra deshedding time was required, add-on services were selected, or your address falls outside the van’s normal route. Tax and the fuel surcharge also apply at checkout.

Is a full groom worth it for a short-haired dog?

Often not. A short-haired dog usually needs a bath and coat maintenance rather than a haircut, which starts at $78.97 instead of $153.12. Booking the right service is the easiest saving available.
